This Week in Room 8 (9/5 to 9/9)

Tuesday, September 6th: Open House 6-6:30 in the Big Gym with Mr. McConnell and Mrs. Sutic.
6:40-7:10 We will meet back in Room 8.

ELA:
We will continue our Friends theme and work on the following skills...
  • Comparing and contrasting characters in the story
  • Retelling the story using our Retell Rope
  • Short i sound
  • Types of Sentences- Declarative (statements) and Interrogative (questions)
Word Wall Words

Decoding Strategies- We will learn how to use the picture to help us figure out unknown words as we read. We will also learn how to stretch out the sounds in an unknown word to help us read the word. In first grade, we call this segmenting.



Math-

We will continue to work on the following skills:
  • Ordering and comparing objects using a third object
  • Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units
We will begin working on counting to 120 starting at any number. In this range, the students will read and write numbers and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.

Science-
We will continue Unit 1: Plant and Animal Parts.

The Leader in Me:
This week we will discuss Habit 3 (Put First Things First). We will learn the importance of work first then play.
