This Week in Room 8 (9/12- 9/16)

Gummy Bear, our class pet, begins his adventure this week with our Leader of the Week!
We can't wait to hear all about it on Thursday.

ELA:
We continue our Friends theme this week as we read Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon and Owen & Mzee. As we read and listen to stories, we are working on the following skills:
  • Finding Treasures (looking at the pictures in stories to help us describe the setting, characters, and events)

Words Their Way-
This week we begin Words Their Way. Your child will be working on a special spelling pattern based on his/her developmental spelling. The goal is that through sorting practice and writing practice that the spelling pattern will carry over when your child writes independently.

Math:
This week we will work on the following skills-
  • Counting to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numbers and represent a number of objects with a written numeral
  • Organize, represent, and  interpret data with up to three categories; ask and  answer questions about the  total number of data points, how many in each  category, and  how many more or less are in one  category than in another.
  • Continued practice with looping patterns- exploring new app Scratch Jr. and connecting learning
Science:
  • This week we will learn about the different parts of plants.
Rooted Mind:
This week our root is the Latin root "port" which means to carry, bear.
If you come across the root "port" as you read or listen to your child read, see if he/she can point it out!

Leader in Me:
This week we will review Habits 1, 2, and 3

We have phrases to go along with our Habits:
Habit 1- Be Proactive. I'm in charge of me.
Habit 2- Begin with the end in mind. Have a plan.
Habit 3- Put first things first. Work first, then play.

Ask your child to show you the motions!

Make sure to have your child bring his/her library books on Thursday!
