This Week (so far) in Pictures!

Students had the opportunity to share their animal books with the class.
I am so proud of our writers! We are becoming more confident in writing stories with a beginning, middle, and end. In this case, we tried to incorporate some of the facts we researched on Pebble Go.

Fireman Mike came to 1st Grade to talk about fire safety.
We learned about smoke detectors, stay low and go, knowing what to do when there is a fire, having a meeting place in the front yard, and knowing our address.

Our goal is to make sure we know our address by the time Fireman Mike returns on February 16th.
He also gave us two worksheets to complete at home. These worksheets are due on 2/15.

Today we were challenged with a Speed Sort for Words Their Way.
Each student timed him/herself for the first time through the sort. They kept track of the time. Then, they went back and tried to beat the first time!

We are becoming experts at going back in the text to find the answer to our questions.
Today we read a story about Hoppy Spider.
After answering questions about the text, we went back and filled in our graphic organizer to help us understand Hoppy better. What did he do? How did he feel? What did he look like? What did he say?

We continued practicing our reading skills on Read Theory and RAZ Kids.
