We will continue our unit of good citizens and strong leaders. As we read, we will be working on the following skills:
- Students will be able to retell details of a story including character traits, main events, and problem/solution.
- Students will be able to verbalize a character’s traits (both from text details and inferences)
- Students will be able to write their opinion on which character traits make a character strong leader
We have been working hard to expand our vocabulary. After we read a text, we pick a character from the story and find a word to describe the character (mean, happy, nice, scared, excited). After picking one word, we try to see how many synonyms we can come up for the given word. This is a great skill to practice at home.
Writing:
This week we will continue to work on developing more complex sentences. We will use our writing strategies this week to create our very own story problems for math!
MATH:
- This week we continue to work on addition and subtraction skills. Students are learning how to add double digit (or higher) numbers without regrouping and with regrouping. Today, we introduced double digit subtraction without borrowing.
- We will continue to work on problem-solving strategies where we show our thinking, create an equation, include a label with our answer, and explain our problem solving strategies in steps.
- We will continue to practice missing number problems for addition, subtraction, and even multiplication as we work on solving problems at our "just right fit."
SCIENCE:
In Science, we will continue to work on comparing and contrasting sound waves and light waves.
