This Week in Room 8 (2/20 to 2/24)

ELA:
This week we will be working on the following skills as we read about famous leaders:

  • determine the main idea in text
  • identify key (important) details in text
  • finding examples of text evidence
Phonics and Grammar:
  • suffixes -ly (with/like) and -ful (full of)
  • different spellings for long o, long u, and long i
  • adjectives for size and shape
Word Wall Words:
  • drink
  • only
  • better
  • hold
  • warm
MATH:
This week we officially start our Geometry unit. We will be working on the following skills and working on a wide-range of skills at our "just right" levels:
  • understanding the difference between defining attributes and non-defining attributes for shapes (example- defining attribute for a triangle- 3 sides, 3 vertices; non-defining attribute for triangle- color or size)
  • Reviewing place value, addition (with and without regrouping), subtraction (with and without borrowing), and analyzing and interpreting data
