  • Identifying key details in non-fiction text
  • Understanding how a timeline helps us to learn more about a specific person
  • Understanding the purpose of non-fiction text features- How does it help the reader?
  • Read and analyze how specific people became strong leaders
Grammar:
  • Identify and use adjectives
  • Reviewing nouns, proper nouns, verbs, and possessives
  • Adding -ing to verbs
Word Wall Words:
  • full
  • done
  • light
  • pick
  • hurt

  • Reviewing addition, subtraction, and graphing skills
  • Identifying and Composing 2-D and 3-D shapes
Pictures from Last Week:

We learned a great deal about RED (Respecting Each Difference).

We enjoy reading and listening to stories on Epic and Tumblebooks!

We are working on creating book reviews so other students can explore different books!

We explored Digital Readworks for reading comprehension!

We used our problem solving and our spatial skills to compose specific 2-D shapes given the clues on the card. Be sure to check out your child's PicCollage on Seesaw to see how it went!

We are becoming experts on going back in the text to find evidence.
We know that reading is more than just saying the words.
I am SO impressed with how the students know that they need to go back and find the answer!

Oops! SO Many Pictures to Post!

Our Leader of the Week reads about her adventures with Gummy Bear!

Check out the cool hat for Gummy Bear!
Thanks, Mrs. Holtz.

We learned how different sounds are made for many movies... even Star Wars!

We even made the sound of a thunderstorm with our bodies!

We got a kick out of Mr. Maxwell reading with great expression!

Our Leader of the Week read his poster to the class.

Our class was in charge of creating problems for the Global Math Twitter Task Challenge (#gmttc1).
We are learning how to show our work and include key details like equations, labels, and writing out our steps.

We enjoyed the sunny day with our friends!

We did a graphing activity where we voted on our favorite treat (cupcakes, chocolate, or candy).
Check out your child's assignment on Seesaw!

On Valentine's Day, the students of Room 8 were busy thinking Win-Win!
We created letters of cheer for a local retirement center.

We also played a fun drawing game!
Have you ever created a picture on your head?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Our next math challenge had us thinking of numbers that had three tens with a sum of twelve.
It took awhile to get the wheels going, but we really got into it!

We shared our projects on Seesaw!

We buddied up on a Nearpod activity for long vowels.
"When two vowels go walking... the first one does the talking!"

Our Leader of the Week read about his adventures with Gummy Bear.

We are getting better on reading with expression and good pausing!
Click on your child's ELA folder and go back to see how your child has grown since the beginning of the year.

Our Leader read a funny story called Imogene's Antlers.

Our final math challenge for the week had us creating equations that add up to an ODD sum.
We posted our learning on Padlet.
You can check it out here:

Fireman Mike came in to visit 1st Grade.
We learned how important it is for everyone in first grade to know their address and phone number.
Please, please help your child to memorize this important information!

We also learned to never touch matches, lighters, barbeque grills, and sparklers!

Our Guest Reader came in to read a silly Amelia Bedelia book.

We had Robotics Rotations on Friday.
Students worked at one of the four rotations (Cubelets, Dash, Ozobots, and Coding apps).
We learned how to write lines of code using Blockly with Dash.
Instead of moving Dash by gliding a finger across the iPad, students had to drag and drop commands.
Then, they watched in amazement as Dash performed the commands!
