Yesterday, students worked together for a Nearpod activity where they learned about consumers, producers, and goods. We are learning how each plays an important part
in our specialty store project PBL.
We also learned about maps. We learned that a compass rose gives information about the location of places on maps. We discussed the possibilities for best places to open a shop and why. We learned about "rural" and "urban." Students had to determine where on their map to build their shop.
Today we had our final Google Hangout with first grade students from Bloomingdale, IL. Our discussion focused on comparing and contrasting the stories of Yeh-Shen and The Korean Cinderella. We worked on forming opinion questions to ask the other students as well as specific questions about the stories. I am so impressed with their focus and determination during our work time!
We enjoyed connecting and learning from other students and discussing the two stories!
Today was a great experience for the kids. We took time afterwards to reflect. They loved meeting new friends, learning someone else's ideas, and learning more about someone new. They also commented on how it was okay to have different ideas and opinions. "If they didn't agree, it doesn't mean that they didn't like your idea." I was very impressed with the reflection.
During our PBL time this afternoon, we focused on learning about "Needs" and "Wants."
Students learned how we need water, food, shelter, clothes, and medicine (if we need it) to survive.
We also learned about how needs are different than wants.
Students created a chart where they included pictures of examples of needs and wants.
Be sure to check out PicCollage in the next few days to see your child's work!
Great work!
