Superpowers, Unique Pumpkins, and Creating a Noun Town!

What's your superpower?

We began our project by creating self-portraits with superpowers!

We used watercolor paint for the background of our project.

We took some time to write down our special learning superpower.

We are learning how to show our thinking when we solve story problems.
We are learning how to draw a picture to match the problem, number the items in the picture, write an equation, label our answer. Soon we will be working on writing out our thinking on how we solved the problem. We will be including words like "First, Next, Then, and Last."

We are learning how to sort pictures by the number of syllables.
Can you have your child find items that have one syllable, two syllables, and three syllables?

We used our creativity and some really cool scrap paper to create our very own pumpkins.
We wrote a story about our pumpkin. We are trying to help the reader understand the sequence of our story so we are including our transition words (First, Next, Then, and Last) in our writing.

We are rocking our reading in TEAM READ!
Students are learning decoding and comprehension strategies to help our reading come alive.
We are also reinforcing the phonics, grammar, and writing skills that we are learning in the classroom.

We took some time to enjoy the beautiful weather with our friends!

After reading about Families, we turned to our partner and shared our connections with the text.

We shared our project and learning from our Pumpkin Story on Seesaw.

We learned how to use Padlet!
Students scanned the QR code and responded to the question.
Today's question: What makes you happy?

Check out our responses:

Today we wrote about our superpower.
We how to write a paragraph.
In our example, I included a picture of a hamburger to help students visualize the key parts of a paragraph.

We know that we need a topic sentence so our reader knows what he/she will be reading. The topic sentence is the top of the bun. Then, we need to include many details. The details are the juicy sentences in the middle. Finally, we need to add a closing sentence. In this case, we wanted our closing sentence to include feeling. The closing sentence is the bottom of the hamburger bun.

Be sure to check out our final project in Seesaw in the next few days!

Noun Town!

Our class synergized with Mrs. Comitors's class for a special project.
Half of our students went into Mrs. Comitor's room and half of
Mrs. Comitor's students came into our room.

We have been learning about common and proper nouns.
Students took their learning into action by creating and labeling a town.
We know that specific people, places, and things are proper nouns and need to begin with a capital letter. We also tried to incorporate our knowledge of special titles like Mr., Mrs., and Dr.

Well, we ran out of room. Our Noun Town turned out great!
