Fantastic First Week in 2017!

Comparing Numbers:
We played a game where we compared two digit and three digit numbers.
Students are learning how to use the < and > symbols.
We would open our crocodile hands to "eat" the larger number.

We love BUDDY READING!
As we read to our partner, we are working on reading with expression and good pacing.

We began constructing our very own Function Machines.
We learned that when we put a number in the machine, the number is changed based on the power of the machine. Students could decide what power they wanted their function machines. The power could be adding one number between 5 and 999! For example, if the power of the function machine is + 9, when the number 5 goes in the machine, 14 would come out (5 + 9 = 14). We can also have 20 coming out of the machine and have to figure out what number went in the function machine. In this case, we would have to subtract 20 - 9 = 11. The number 11 went in the function machine!

We will explore our friends' function machines this coming week as we practice our adding and subtracting skills.

We are continuing to practice our Greek and Latin Roots.
This week we worked with Mrs. Jorjorian's 4th grade class to program Dash to go from the Greek/Latin root to the definition. It was a great review for all!

Is the material transparent, translucent, or opaque?

We learned what the key vocabulary words mean as we explored what happened to the light as we aimed it towards the various materials.

My heart melted yesterday after school when I stopped by Deerfield Public Library to check out the amazing artwork created by our class in Ms. Foran's art class.
It was great to run into two friends while I was there!
I am so proud of our class.
This made my week!
