Our Leader of the Week is sharing his poster with the class!
We LOVE Buddy Reading!
We have been working hard to understand the main idea and key details in informational text.
Where are the ADJECTIVES?
Students worked on a writing activity where they designed their very own monster.
Then, they had to write a descriptive paragraph about their monster.
We worked on adding color, shape, and design details to our writing.
Finally, we traded papers with a friend.
They had to draw our monster using the directions only.
After reflecting, we realized how important adjectives are for creating a picture in our head!
We are busy at the... ZOO?
Our math challenge today had us at a zoo with 18 legs.
We had to determine what animal combinations would create 18 legs.
We used pictures and equations to help us solve this #gmttc1 challenge.
In case you don't know, #gmttc1 stands for Global Math Task Twitter Challenge 1st Grade.
We were solving a math challenge created from a class from Ontario, Canada!
Our Leader of the Week is sharing pictures so we can learn more about him.
Contraction Ninja:
We synergized with a partner to navigate through a Nearpod activity on contractions.
We learned how to match the contractions, write contractions, and write the two words that make a given contraction.
On your child's iPad is an app called Front Row.
We often use it for differentiated math practice, but we also use it for word study.
Students began working on a unique project today where they are writing their own
"how to's" for working our robots, Dash and Ozobot.
We realized the importance of making sure we think out the entire process so it makes sense, including transition words, and using adjectives so we can help the reader
paint a better picture of the plan.
We will be having special guests come into the room to follow the student directions to operate the robots!
We wrapped up our day with a fantastic opportunity for students to read and learn from other first grade students at Kipling! We mixed all of the first graders up and set them free to read with a buddy from another room.
There was a hum in the classroom as students read together.
During our reflection, students really enjoyed "seeing friends from other classrooms" and "learning more about someone new."
