Last Week in Pictures... Out of Order! (12/12 to 12/16)

We took some time on Friday to think of others.
We made beautiful necklaces and created letters filled with inspiration for patients in a hospital.

We had a blast at our "Snow Much Fun" Holiday Party!

At our Leadership Assembly on Wednesday, we had a friend receive a badge
for putting first things first!
Way to go!

Our leader of the week read about her adventures with Gummy Bear!

Our leader also read a classic to the class:
Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type

The Choraliers from Deerfield High School came to sing and dance.

We had indoor recess (AGAIN).
Today, so friends chose to join me for a place value game called Chase!

We watched the 5th Graders take on the Kipling Staff.

We downloaded a new app that shares current events for kids called News-o-Matic.

We typed down what we learned on Seesaw.
Be sure to check it out!

Our guest readers came in and read to the class!

Reader's Theatre!

Our Leader of the Week (from last week) read her book to the class!

Our leader of the week (from this week) shared some pictures from home.
We love learning more about our classmates!

We began our Reader's Theatre. As we practice, we are working on reading with expression and making it sound like a conversation.

We practiced again today and put on our performance in front of the class!
Check out our Twitter #cacioppoleaders
I will also post the pictures in our Storify at the end of the week!

This Week in Room 8 (12/12 to 12/16)

We have a busy week planned as we wrap up projects before Winter Break!

ELA:
This week we will be working on the following skills:

  • Restating the question in our written response (ex. What is your favorite color? My favorite color is green (instead of just writing "Green")
  • Determining Author's Purpose (PIE). P- persuade, I- inform, E- entertain
  • Reader's Theatre- We will be working on reading with expression, fluency, and good phrasing as we synergize with classmates to perform a play.
MATH:
This week we will be working on the following skills:
  • Introducing Place Value (one's, ten's, and hundred's place for 1st grade and beyond)
  • Reviewing subtraction and addition strategies
Science:
We will continue to learn about how light helps us to see.

Last Week in Pictures

Our leader of the week shared information on her poster with the class.

Our leader shared pictures from home of her family.

We worked on a Global Math Task Twitter Challenge for 1st Grade.
This problem involved adding different candy/chocolate combinations to equal $21.

We worked on filling out a book review for a book in our reading bucket.
Look out for great readers in Room 8!!!

We learned how to use a new coding app called Kodables!

We explored our robotics.
Students got to choose what robotics to work with during our coding/robotics time.

Check out the Cubelets in action!

Dash also came out for some adventures.

We also explored more with the Ozobots.
Today we introduced blocks and a plow we can add to the robot to collect the blocks.

Book Club:
We read our final selection from our habitat books.
I forgot to get pictures of the next part of the project.
First, we buddied up with a friend in another group.
Next, we took turns retelling our story.
Finally, we had to find one way that our stories were alike and one way that the stories were different.
Way to go, readers!

We learned about a new coding app called Hopscotch.
Students can watch a video to learn how to design specific features for their projects!

We had our guest reader come in Friday to read Pete the Cat!

Our class divided up and went into Mrs. Friedlander's class and Mrs. Comitor's class to teach them about our cool robotics.

We taught them how to use Dash!

We showed them the cool things you can do with Cubelets!

We also guided them so they can understand how to work Ozobots!

It was a great week!!
